Let me count the ways…
AKA… My Journey into Paranormal Romance, and this Blog…
Firstly, I’ve been reading Paranormal Romance for about 20 years. I was only 10 when a friend of mine brought me a Waterstones Voucher as a birthday present.
I was already a lover of books by then, but this signified the first time I was allowed to go into Waterstones, on my own, and purchase a book of my choosing, without parental supervision.
I chose The Last Vampire by Christopher Pike.
Around the time that I read this I also watched Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire. I was hooked on Vampires. I read LJ Smith’s Vampire Diaries and then her Night World Series. My love for paranormal romance bloomed.
Throughout High School, I began to read more, and with a library card I was in seventh heaven. The problem was my teachers, and my mum wasn’t too pleased.
My English teacher told me to ‘choose better books’. My Mum naturally was worried I wanted to be a vampire (I didn’t, I still don’t) and my friends, although liked some of it, thought I was a bit weird.
Then the greatest influence to me and to paranormal romance starting showing on the BBC. Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
To date this show is still my favourite, the books ( yes, books were released) are still so familiar. I had memorabilia, Angel’s Ring he gave to Buffy, a necklace with the signature ‘B’ and various notebooks. I have managed to lose all of these, unfortunately, replacements are not easy to find.
With the release of ‘Blood and Chocolate’ a movie about a female werewolf loosely based on the novel by Anneatte Curtis Klaus, the Underworld movies, Queen of the Damned, Blade, Practical Magic, and The Craft, I was fully committed to romance with a Paranormal theme.
When I left school at 16, I started to work full time, and with great wage packets come great Reading Material (Paranormal Romance) …
I started to read authors like Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kresley Cole, Patricia Briggs, Mary Janice Davison, Charlaine Harris, Lynsay Sands, Kerrelyn Sparks, Laurell K Hamilton. My possibilities have become endless.
Naturally, I’ve become interested in ALL things paranormal. Ghosts, Werewolves, Witches, Demons… I’ve loved looking into the myth and histories of these creatures of the night. I love the unexplained and the downright weird.
I’ve been spellbound by Paranormal Romance
So if you’ve read this far, thank you. I cannot wait to see what the second half of the year of this blog takes me.
Tarot, Dracula, Halloween, Graveyards, Bats, Ghost Stories, are my ghouls.. I mean Goals for the second half of this year. So please, stay a while… maybe eternity.
