Review of Real Vampires Have Curves by Gerry Bartlett

What – did you think all vamps were pale, thin and brooding? Don’t I wish.

Gloriana St. Clair is an eternally “full-figured” vampire-she just happened to be bloating when a sexy Scotsman sank his teeth into her. She and said Scot- Angus Jeremiah Campbell III, aka Jeremy Blade-have been on and off again for centuries, currently off. A couple hundred years has taught them how to press each other’s buttons-in good ways and bad.

Glory’s headed for Austin and a new business venture: Vintage Vamp’s Emporium. After all, she loves clothes, and she is an antique. Only problem is, there’s a billionaire techno-freak vampire hunter on the loose. Blade’s in total he- vampire mode, and wants Glory to move in with him so he can “protect” her. But it’s time for this vamp to explore her own powers.

Whilst there are a lot of plus size heroines in novels now, back when this was published in 2007 this was rare. REALLY rare.

Additional to that Glory is a really flawed Heroine. She has a gambling problem, a shopping problem, and men problem (s).

I loved this about her. I am a plus sized girl (and proud!) And it was so refreshing to read about a Vampire whose a big girl.

“Vampires are everywhere. Lose all-vampires-are-rich-and-powerful stereotypes. Think Mike the night Clerk at the mini-mart. Brittany, the barmaid who brings you Appletini at last call”

Like the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries there’s a new blood substitute, and whilst the vampires won’t be coming out of the coffin, most vampires in this series drink it.

Even still a Hunter is after them, and he likes to play with technology and create new things to detect them, which was refreshing.

This series is far more light-hearted than some vampire novels, and I could relate to Glory more than most paranormal heroines.

Glory is put down by many of cast, but she has a heart of gold, and i adored her relationship with her talking dog.. if only my dog talked.

She was constantly trying to change and reinvent herself, and get the feeling that Glory will have such a journey of self within these novels and I cant wait to continue on her path.

Review

Every now and there a book comes along to solidify my love of Paranormal Romance.

This is it. And it’s just the beginning of a marvelous series of books.

Whenever I re-read HTTG, I have a huge killer watt smile on my face.

The dialogue between Cat and the cast of characters is funny and clever and never boring.

Lucifer’s bouncing balls, Kitten, not again!

Cat and Bones interaction is stunning. Cat is incredibly stubbon huntress and kills any vampire that she finds. Spurned on by a horrendous mother her ignorence about Vampires is slowly changing, influenced by Bones.

Bones basically fills the gap that Spike from Buffy had. Bleach blonde hair, British and very naughty. Plus he’s a vampire.

Cat was promised by Bones to find her Vampire father, if she helps him hunt the worst Vampires.

There is only one way to fight, and that’s dirty. Clean gentlemanly fighting will get you nowhere but dead, and fast. Take every cheap shot, every low blow, absolutely kick people when they’re down, and maybe you’ll be the one who walks away.

Overall, I love this series and I am re-reading the books and will be posting review in the next few weeks..

PS these books are the reasons I write and blog.

Review:

WOW!!!

I was about a year late for the hype of this book. I read this book, the first time in January 2017, and it blew me away.

Firstly, the woman on the cover is wearing a very decorative feather outfit, and of course THAT tattoo (if you don’t know what I’m talking about -read it) IMHO, the cover is simple and tells you very little of the story until you have read it.

Prior to this, I hadn’t read any books with Faes in, and what the author calls Fae, I would think elves- like Lord of the Rings.

When you open the book, the first thing I notice is a Map of the magical realm called Prythian. It looks a little bit like The British Isles, with Hybern looking like Ireland. Prythian is broken up into courts, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, day and night courts, with a wall dividing them and the Mortal Realm.

The story begins with Feyre, a Human who kills a ‘Beast’ to ensure her family survive the winter. Her punishment lies on the other side of the Wall. She is brought to the Spring Court, by Tamlin- The High Lord.

Let me make this clear for you, girl: you can either come live at my home in Prythian- offer your life for the wolf’s in that way- or you can walk outside right now and be shredded to ribbons. Your choice. – Tamlin

Feyre is introduced to the cruel, but beautiful world of Prythain, with its strange dreamlike creatures, and curses. But can Beauty survive falling in love with the Beast?

“I love you,’ he whispered, and kissed my brow. ‘Thorns and all.”

Recommended to: Everyone!!!

“Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies.”

Review

I couldn’t review Twilight & Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, without adding a review for Vampire Academy.

I love the Red/Black cover, it’s very striking and the whole series stands out on my bookshelf really well.

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger . . . and the Strigoi are always close by.

Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever . . .

The novel starts halfway through the story. Lissa’s parents & brother have been killed, and they’ve been on the run for the two years. quickly, the story evolves, into a face paced adventure into their world.

High school Bully, cliques, Murder, Body Changes, and secrets are all adding up to a very sinister, funny, Young Adult fiction.

Review: Daughter of the Pirate King

Rating: ★★★★★

Series: Daughter of the Pirate King, #1

Pages: 320

Genre: YA Fantasy

Okay, before I just explode from fangirling… I’ll explain what the book is about…

20170521_162723617_iOS

Princess Alosa is the Daughter of the self-titled Pirate King Kalligan. He has sent her on a mission to find one of three maps that show the location of Isla de Canta. An Island full of untold riches and treasure. The Pirate King wants the treasure to ensure he stays King for a very long time…

Alosa is ‘kidnapped’ by the captain of the Night Farer Ship, looking for a ransom from her father. Alosa is on a mission to find map.. but the intriguing first Mate -The captain’s Brother- is a little too tempting…

This is a debut book for Tricia Levenseller, but it doesn’t show. She made me completely envious of the world they lived in, even with the violence and thievery. Her descriptions of the sea and the world were vivid.

“I live on the cusp of two worlds, trying desperately to fit into one.”
I loved Alosa. She was strong, and enough of a Pirate to know she wasn’t a pretender ( I hate those) She had enough fierceness without being a bitch, and I loved it.

She had some of those bizarre eccentricities that Jack Sparrow had that I love for example:

“If you’re sorry, that means you want forgiveness. Is that what you’re asking for? If you want forgiveness, that means you want to make things right. And if you want to make things right, that means that you don’t intend to put me in harm’s way again. So, if you are saying you’re sorry, I don’t think you understand what that entails.”
Riden’s allegiance to his nauseous inducing brother was commendable. Even, when he did not agree with his brother’s actions he remained faithful.

 photo 20170523_122211834_iOS_zpsnvtulsnm.jpg

The Romance between the two was even paced, steady and a bit slow, but it was clear the feelings were manifesting over the course of the book. Alosa & Riden were cut from the cloth, but there is much more that can be developed between the characters.

I checked out Tricia Levenseller GoodReads page which says that the series is a duology, and the final book is out in February 2018. Definitely, pre-order!!!

The Third Installment of the Guild Hunter Series starts after Elena & Raphael get back to New York, fresh from the fight. ( No Spoilers)

Problem is the weather is getting crazy and so are the residents! From Vampires going on Killing sprees to archangels going mental.. It all signifies one thing. An Ancient Archangel is rising from Sleep. Whilst dealing with the usual crap from her father, the craziness is creating a dangerous situation for innocents close to her.

Each Guild Hunter book builds on Elena’s secrets in her past, and also her relationship with tall, dark & winged.

“You are mine, Elena. If you choose to sleep in another bed, I will simply pick you up and bring you home.”

It was great to see both sides of their relationship and also the utter faith that they will fall with each other. Nalini Singh has this amazing ability to build a well thought out world and an achingly beautiful romance that screams of passion & trust. AGH! I want an angel..

That made her pause. “Husband” was too human, “partner” factually wrong for a being as powerful as an archangel, “mate”…perhaps. But none of it was quite right. “Mine,” she said at last.

He blinked and when he raised his lashes again, the blue was liquid fire. Yes, that will do. “But for public consumption, you are my consort.”

“Consort,” she murmured, tasting the word, feeling it’s shape. “Yes, that fits.”

The second instalment in the Guild Hunter Series is just as sensual, passionate and intriguing as the first.

Elena has awoken after a year in a coma, with indigo white tipped wings. Yet the world is not going to let her recover. She is a Made Angel and still Hunter Born. Which makes her a fascination among the Angels. Fascinating enough to kill.

Bodies begin to pile up once again, with a personal message directed at Elena. Her powers as an angel are developing, but she is both weak, and Raphael’s Weakness.

As Elena’s past hurts resurface and ancient Angels go mad, Raphael’s and Elena relationship is still tenuous.

“He’d kill for her, destroy for her, savage anyone who dared attempt to take her from him.
And he would never let her go…even if she begged for her freedom.”

YES!!!!

Elena’s & Raphael’s relationship was perfect. Alpha Male yumminess from Raphael and she totally kicked ass!! I love that their relationship is new and they are still trying to trust each other.

I also loved the fact that Elena’s gift was changing to something real. Not something that was too far-fetched, just perfect. I love gushing over this series.

“He knew what he was. He knew what he was capable of. He also knew that if he broke her, he’d despise himself for all eternity.”

My first Review of 2018!! I am so excited because its the first book I’ve read of 2018 as well.. Go Book Goals!! smashing them… Onto the review…

This is a re-read for me. one of my Goals this year was to read the Guild Hunter Series. It’s such a complex fantasy world and felt I needed an update.

So let’s start… Angel’s pretty much rule the world, and they are not the cute cherub’s sitting on the cloud, they are cruel, ruthless, powerful, and sexy.

The angels can create Vampires, but the price for immortality is loyalty. Some Vampires don’t remain loyal, and often need to be hunted and returned to their ‘sire’

Enter Elena. She is Hunter born. She can scent Vampires and she is the best at what she does. So when the Archangel of Manhattan needs help Hunt a very dangerous threat, he calls on Elena, but he has a problem keeping his hands off her.

OMFG! I love Raphael. I imagine he looks like Cristiano Ronaldo in my Head. Athletic, Strong, Tan… oops dropped off there.

Elena. I loved Elena. She’s fierce, funny protective of those she loves, and she isn’t a simpering moron!!

“He was trying to make me his bed buddy. I declined. He gave chase.”
… “How, exactly, did you ‘decline’ his offer?”
“By slitting his throat.”

The supporting Characters were amazing kick-ass beautiful people, and I cannot wait to read their stories.

“You know how spooky Ashwini is. She called an hour ago to tell me she has a secret stash of handheld grenade launchers she thought I might want to know about. My response was, ‘What the fuck?”

I love that Nalini Singh didn’t get all Holy. Yeah the story is about Angel’s, but It was unique, and there was no in your face, God is Good, which made me immensely happy.

Review: Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz

Rating: ★★★★★

Series: Van Alen Legacy, #1

Pages: 302

Genre: YA Fantasy

Blue Bloods is the first in the Van Alen Legacy Series. It stars the lives of Fanged & Fabulous kids from Manhattan, who find out they are actually Blue Bloods- Vampire’s. So pop the Champagne, and take a trip inside the lives of the super rich & privileged ‘It’ Crowd.

I have read this book several years ago, but the series is now complete. I have a few Teen Vampire Romances, and I LOVED them.. They are addicting.

The cover, is simply genius: pearls and bite marks- perfect for the lifestyle of these young and fanged.

20170516_175415181_iOS

The book starts out with Schuyler Van Alen and her Best friend Oliver, at a club called the Bank. The club next door, Palladium, features the IT crowd, Mimi & Jack Force, and Bliss. The lines between cliques become really blurred as their fellow classmate from Duchense is killed that same night.

Schuyler & Bliss are then invited to the Committee, where they find out they are Vampires that are reincarnated after their physical shell dies after about 100 years. Except that Schuyler is different, she’s a new soul, instead of a reincarnation… & that’s not a good thing. There is something out there killing the vampire’s, and they will not be recycled.

Overall, it’s a good premise and start to the series, however, the romance between Jack and Schuyler is redundant. He’s a first class Jack-ass- and what is happening with him & his sister??!!

It was a great beginning to a series and it was filled with mythology, and overall 5/5 sparkles
